Revitalizing a Mid-Century Church Identity in the Heart of Columbus, IN
This project was done with my good friends at Fishhook!
When First Christian Church in the heart of Columbus, IN came to us for a brand refresh, they expressed two things:
A desire to not simply be known as “the church with the cool building”
A brand identity system that felt rooted in their very rich mid-century history.
Our goal with this project was not to create a brand system that felt like the hip skinny-jean wearing megachurch down the street, while having a sense of energy and enthusiasm.
FCC has a beautiful building in the mid-century design haven of Columbus, IN. They’re relatively famous in the architecture scene for their iconic bell tower.
Much of the overall system was inspired by the architecture of both the interior and exterior of the facilities. We wanted to create a brand that felt at home in their space.
Part of this project included fleshing out the brand into some sub-brands for their kids and youth ministries, and then designing some environmental graphics within the system.
We also designed a series of CNC signs for the exterior of the building.
The goal of the signage design was to craft signs that felt modern, but also felt at-home amongst their mid-century architecture.
